During my 10 years working for a Japanese conglomerate, I spent much of my time selling Japanese products in developing countries across Central and South America, Asia, and beyond. I was also involved in expanding the sales of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Throughout this experience, I realized that Japan is home to many outstanding technologies, products, and services that deserve to be shared with the world. For Japan's economy to thrive, it’s essential that these innovations are not only passed on to future generations but continue to grow and evolve.

Currently, Japan is facing a significant business succession crisis, with many exceptional SMEs struggling to secure a future for their businesses. In light of this, I believe promoting third-party business succession is crucial, and search funds can play a key role in addressing this issue.

At the core of the search fund model is the idea of "visible business succession." This approach involves investing in a single, promising company, where the search fund founder—such as myself—steps in as the successor to lead the business. While the term "fund" might evoke concerns, unlike traditional funds, we don’t have a fixed redemption period. This allows us to focus on the long-term growth and development of the company, taking a medium- to long-term perspective.

Business succession is a major life event for any owner, especially when handing over a business they’ve dedicated their life to building. The most important aspect of this transition is ensuring a strong fit between the owner and the successor. That’s why building mutual trust is our priority.
